Sour Mother is an installation that follows similar logics to Mute Track. Strips of SCOBY are sewn to a webbing structure that is attached to a rotating mechanism. As the speed increases from standstill within the choreography, the strips whirl outward. After stopping, the action begins again in the opposite direction.
The exhibition pictured is Weathered Together with Maija Fox, hosted at Kohta Kunsthalle and guest curated by Benjamin Orlow of St.Chads. The exhibition was reviewed in Helsingin Sanomat.
Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts for supporting the touring exhibition, to Andrew Dixon for work on the motor control boxes, and to Rudy's Kombucha for growing the SCOBY.
